The verdict
The YEP-321 is a long-running step-up formula: moderate bore and bell dimensions, four top-action pistons, and the warm, easy response Yamaha emphasizes. It is a practical instrument for ensemble playing and a substantial move beyond a basic three-valve beginner horn.
The boundary is its non-compensating design. The fourth valve adds range and alternate fingerings, but not the automatic correction or left-hand 3+1 ergonomics of the YEP-642 Neo. That makes the 321 an excellent intermediate instrument, not a less expensive version of Yamaha’s professional platform.

- Four valves do not make it compensating. Low combined-valve notes need more player correction, and all four pistons sit under the right hand rather than using the professional line's 3+1 layout.
