Adam Frey, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, is one of the most-traveled euphonium soloists of his generation — by his own count teaching and performing on six continents and in more than 47 countries. He trained at the University of Georgia (where he won first prize at the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium Competition), the Royal Northern College of Music (master’s with distinction), and the University of Salford. A tireless advocate for the instrument, he has had well over 150 works composed or arranged for him — by composers including Kevin Day, Barbara York, and Gail Robertson — many issued through his own Euphonium.com Publications.
For more than two decades he has hosted the International Euphonium Tuba (IET) Festival at Emory University, a June gathering that draws roughly 150 students and teachers from around the world each year. He has soloed with the Boston Pops and the U.S. Army Orchestra among many others, appeared four times at the Midwest Clinic, and performed at festivals across Australasia, South America, Asia, and Europe. He currently serves as President of the International Tuba Euphonium Association — only the fourth euphoniumist to lead the organization — and as head of jury at the Jeju International Brass Competition.
As an educator, Frey is Professor of Music and Director of Instrumental Studies at the University of North Georgia, and also teaches graduate students at Georgia State University. He has been a Yamaha Performing Artist and clinician since 2000 and plays exclusively on the Yamaha YEP-842TS with an Ultimate Brass signature mouthpiece.
