The soloist must move comfortably between singing foreground and active rhythmic exchange with the band. Clear articulation and flexible sound make those changes immediate without becoming abrupt.

Because the accompaniment is colorful, projection is primarily a matter of timing and register. Listen for where the orchestration opens, then let phrase direction carry the sound rather than adding unnecessary volume.
