Stevens understands how the euphonium works physically, but idiomatic writing can still be extremely demanding. The soloist must preserve ease of response as range, volume, and rhythmic density accumulate.

Long-form clarity comes from contrast. Give lyrical ideas space to sing, keep active sections rhythmically focused, and coordinate with the ensemble so that climaxes feel shared rather than imposed.
