A grave opening and expansive lyrical writing lead toward a faster, more brilliant close.</p> <p>The challenge is architectural. The player must preserve momentum through tempo and character changes while managing a part that sits increasingly high and exposed. Heavy playing makes the fast material immovable; playing too lightly deprives the opening of authority.</p>
